So the reason it took a while for me to update is that I went back to Texas! First time in almost a year… One of my best friends, Geoff, got married last weekend. I flew back to participate in the wedding festivities.
Of course, the first order of business was the bachelor party! Geoff, being the hipster that he is, decided to give the traditional strippers and black-out drinking fest a miss and went with the ‘camping with your friends’ route. I had the best time! We went camping on my family’s land.
As an aside, our neighbor came by to check to see who was on our land. When he saw me, he recognized me right away. There’s something comforting about home, where people can tell who you are because they know your father and grandfather and you look so much like them. It’s good to go home…
We brought a four-wheeler, a bow, and cooler full of beers (he may be a traditionalist at heart, after all!) to entertain us through the day and night. So a couple of guys decided to take the short cut from the opposite side of the lake to our campsite…
We were thoroughly entertained!
It was a great time! Thanks to jet-lag, I also got to see the sunrise on our land for the first time in a very long time.
After all that excitement from the day before, there’s only one way to put you right again the next morning.
When you don’t have patty sausage and cream gravy and the British idea of ‘biscuit’ includes Oreos, this was pure heaven!
The next few days were an amazing blur… I got to see my family.
I got to spend time with my friends, get my fill of Mexican food, and even managed to sneak in four rounds of golf (so glad my cousin was able to spend 3 of those rounds).
Then came the wedding weekend! It was amazing! The rehearsal dinner was so much fun. I got to catch up with friends I’ve known for almost 20 years now (since 7th grade!), but haven’t seen in over a year. We got to have Texas barbeque and sit on the world’s largest rocking chair.
Everyone was so much fun to be around. The wedding was beautiful. We are so happy for Geoff and his new bride! Congratulations to them!
The next day it was back to England. Luckily, there was one last bastion of Texas in the airport on the way home.
God bless Texas!
Hope you are well!
